I am however always surprising myself with my accomplishments in Roller Derby. I shouldn't be as surprised as I am because I do work very hard...I feel I earn my accomplishments. I would be lying though if I said I wasn't hard on myself about somethings...although I think it drives me to try harder so I can pick it up eventually.
I have had a couple of accomplishments the past couple of weeks. I have struggled for a long time to get my sharp right turns down. My right foot often is nothing more than a stick with a skate on it! Sounds easy enough but man I have struggled with this for a long time. A couple weeks ago I was pretty hard on myself because I didn't get my 25 laps in 5 minutes....but that same practice I tried my starts (run on toe stops, duck walk then ease into a powerful skate) anyway my starts were getting better so what I was hard on myself about didn't seem so bad after feeling better about the starts....then I nailed my turns, then I got my 25 in 5....then last practice I skated backwards (pretty well too I might add) the first kick at the can! I tried it earlier that practice but Pixel Ninja was teaching some newbies how to do and I thought I should watch in case I wasn't doing it right...LOL he told me to go back and keep doing it cause I already knew what I was doing BONUS! Did it on my own and was doing it right!
I guess James Bond and I have one thing in common so far ...I am like a spy ...I watch....this is how I learn best. :) I'm also getting pretty good with speed while playing tag....just like Bond in a car chase...LOL...Pixel Ninja and JagerMaster were chasing me and I was giving them a run for their money last practice. Until I wiped out twice right on my tailbone really giving myself a good pull on my shoulder. So I got a sore butt...a sore shoulder but still no derby bruises to brag about...LOL
The falls last practice were especially hard because I was planning a bike trip to PEI with my friends the next day which was an awesome trip however a sore butt and shoulder riding in my car may have been more comfortable.
